Socorro Independent School District employees laced up their sneakers to raise awareness about childhood cancer during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.
More than 50 Team SISD administrators, faculty and staff, including Superintendent James P. Vasquez, participated in the Royal Run for Hope 5K Run/ 1-mile walk on Sept. 29. The district’s “Team SISD-All In” won the trophy for largest team.
“It's great to rally around a very important cause and to see the amount of support we've received from all of our employees,” Vasquez said. “It's just great to see everybody out here this morning.”
The Royal Run for Hope collaborated with Gold Out El Paso to raise funds and support local children and their families as they fight pediatric cancer. One hundred percent of the donations from the run/walk directly supported local pediatric oncology families.
Additionally, Team SISD encouraged students, faculty, and staff to wear gold or yellow to school on September 27 to "Turn El Paso Gold" in honor of the courage of children battling cancer and to raise awareness about childhood cancer in the community.
